One of the Four New Non-Surgical Alternatives to Plastic Surgery

Non-surgical procedures are being introduced at a rapid pace as technology advances and approval is granted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some target serious health conditions, such as degenerative bone issues and severe arthritis, but most are used as alternatives to plastic surgery. The demand for these procedures is driven by marketing techniques, vanity, and the desire to get fast results with little effort or behavior changes. One non-surgical alternative is designed for use under specific circumstances and approved for multiple body areas.

CoolSculpting

This is the only one of Four New Non-Surgical Alternatives to Plastic Surgery that utilizes technology able to freeze fat cells. What is unique about this procedure is that it does not damage the skin or surrounding tissue in any way because it is not delivered via injection. Some people experience a slight tugging or pinching sensation on the skin which dissipates within five minutes as the area becomes numb. Fat cells freeze, gradually die, and are flushed out of the body during the natural process of the immune system.

The procedure targets stubborn areas of fat that are not addressed with diet or exercise. This is not a weight loss procedure and is not recommended for obese people. The coolsculpting technology is for use on candidates who have adopted healthy eating habits and participate in regular exercise. Areas that do not respond well include upper arms, the abdomen, sides, inner and outer thighs, and the chin. There is no downtime and multiple areas can be treated at once.

Long-Lasting Results

Unlike injections that may last a few months or up to one-year, the results with this procedure last much longer. Once fat cells die, they are gone forever. The body does not create replacement fat cells. People who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime will enjoy the initial results the rest of their lives. It is important to keep in mind that the remaining fat cells can grow and diminish results.

Other Alternatives

Most new alternatives require an injection into the area. Kybella, for example, is used to destroy fat cells in the chin and neck area by a professionally administered injection. Results are gradual with little downtime but can irritate the skin at the site or cause an allergic reaction. Juvederm offers new injections that last up to twenty-four months. Injections require a prescription and a consultation prior to treatment.
